New Year – New Rug (and the joys of Perry Higgins Antiques)

After almost two years of procrastination I finally bought a rug.  And I love it!

The rug is a new Turkish Kilim, dyed with vegetable dyes.  The colours are a bit more vibrant in person.  Picture with flash:

I’m not sure if the colour of the teak G-plan coffee table matches 100%, but am also not sure I care if it does or not.

The rug was purchased from Perry Higgins Antiques in Penmaenmawr, North Wales.

This shop is an absolute treasure trove, and will absorb you for hours.  I managed to lose my whole family in there several times.  Their tag line on the website is ‘we sell old stuff’. The ‘old stuff’ is displayed beautifully, in little collections, and is all in great condition.  10,000 square foot of vintage goodness spread over three floors.

I saw so many things I wanted, but managed to contain myself to the lovely rug and some little type set blocks. (images via

My brother bought a collection of vintage tins in bright colours, to house his card collection.  My mum ended up with a stunning wooden sewing box, from approx 1860. (If I am on the ball enough to remember I’ll take some pictures of it sometime).

Moral of the story – visit this shop if you’re ever anywhere near by, I really can’t recommend it enough.
