Advent Calendar

Last year I made an advent calendar for us, but neglected to blog about it. Fortunately, it's reusable, and the picture above shows it this year.

I sewed 24 little felt pouches, and embroidered them with numbers, and crochet the hangers. The tree branches we collected on a rainy afternoon last year, and I then sprayed them roughly with gloss paint to create a snowy look.

(Please excuse the picture quality, it's all a bit slapdash at our house at the moment - very little time and we have an extremely temperamental laptop standing in for a seriously ill PC.)

I stumbled across this on glorious flickr, and couldn't resist sharing. how awesomely cute! I don't have any tattoos, but this could just about convince me. Also, this pedicure puts my toes to shame. If you like to tattoos, check out this ladies other ones in her flickr set.

Peppermint Pomegranate

This may sound a bit odd to some people, but at the moment I'm really feeling inspired by two flavours. Peppermint and Pomegranate. Now, I would not suggest that these should be combined, however I'm really enjoying their images, smells and flavours.

Earlier this week I had to tear myself away from the pomegranate diffuser room scents at TK Maxx. I've also tried to involve pomegranates in recipes more often. I thoroughly recommend a Pomegranate and Carrot Salad, like this one from the timesonline website (or pomecarrot salad, as it's known at our house now).

According to Wikipedia, cultivation of the pomegranate dates back as far as 1000BC, and the juices can be used for natural dyeing of non-synthetic fabrics. While that is probably not a very cost effective way to dye fibres, it certainly sounds romantic.

Speaking of fibres - expect a few posts on felting over the coming days. We've purchased some supplies - including bag containing what must be most of a sheep - and are going to give it a go - I can't wait to get stuck in.
